It looks like the big half rack you passed might be the same buck your brother ended up shooting in 2016 (split brow on right side and similar rack) and the 10 point you passed ended up being your 30-40 krag buck, goes to show the benefits of passing deer!

I've read the old timers used to fill their barrels with bear oil if they were going to leave them tucked away for an extended period, not sure if this fact or not but sounds like good practice. I use ballistol but have never mixed it with water and tried the toothpick method. Will be trying it on my trade gun next time I clean it. A breech scraper is a good tool also. Try lot of real butter splash soy sauce FEW drops worchester. Pan preheated no cover and so hot they steam out the water in 2-3 min. Do NOT use margarine it is mostly water. Leave mushrooms whole do not rinse brush them off with paper towel.
